TUI PROGRAMME
Location: Churchill Park, Glendowie
When: Fridays
Age Group: 4-12 years old
Our Tūī programme is nestled within the expansive 40-hectare Churchill Park. Opening in February 2024, our new programme provides an extraordinary "countryside in the city" experience for children aged 4 to 12 years old.
Embracing the history of "Glendowie Farm", the park features open pastures on the upper slopes, pockets of woodlands and bush on the lower slopes, and occasionally grazing cattle, offering a unique blend of urban and rural environments.
Based outside the scout den, our daily adventures include whittling, exploratory walks, encounters with the cool stream inhabited by eels, and essential life skills like shelter building and fire cooking. Engaging activities such as plant identification sessions and occasional trips to the local beach or Tahuna Torea Reserve add an exciting dimension to our programme.
At the heart of our approach is the recognition of the Tuakana-Teina relationship, where older children serve as mentors and leaders, fostering a sense of community and cooperation. Our child-led learning environment, complemented by planned activities based on the children's interests, ensures a holistic developmental experience.
Our programme is facilitated by a qualified teacher and our adult-to-child ratios are 1:7, with a maximum of 21 children.
Enrolment works on the basis of a minimum one-term commitment, as we value building strong relationships with your child so they feel comfortable and have a sense of belonging.
