RIRORIRO PROGRAMME

Location: Little Shoal Bay, North Shore

When: Wednesdays

Age Group: 4-12 years old

Our new Riroriro programme is based in the lower North Shore with the beautiful Little Shoal Bay as our base.

Little Shoal Bay will be our main base. The location offers a wealth of exciting and challenging play spaces for children to explore and learn in. There is a great tidal beach to explore and go on crab hunting adventures when the tide is out and offers a shallow place to cool off in summer. Across the road is Le Roys Bush, offering a great place for the children to explore, including a stream that is home to many native species, such as the longfin eel.

Our first term will see us spending a few days at some other nearby sites which we believe will offer some diversity, these might include: Smiths Bush, Chelsea Heritage Park, Centennial Park, Sylvan Park. We will be emailing everyone these planned excursions once the term starts.

Our daily adventures will include shelter building, whittling, discovering flora and fauna, self-directed nature play, exploratory walks, encounters with streams and the beach, and essential life skills like tool use and cooking.

At the heart of our approach is the recognition of the Tuakana-Teina relationship, where older children serve as mentors and leaders, fostering a sense of community and cooperation. Our child-led learning environment, complemented by planned activities based on the children's interests, ensures a holistic developmental experience.
